You should definitely take an an opportunity to wander and explore the city. We would generally recommend a day or two to explore but it also serves as a great base to neighbouring towns. Beware that the inner city is almost entirely pedestrian!

The birthplace of the renaissance is a fantastic city to discover art, architecture and history. There are also many fantastic restaurants. During the summer it can get quite busy so we would recommend exploring some of the less frequented neighbourhoods such as around Santa Croce or Oltrarno.
